What They Do:

Lebanon generates around 2.55 million tons of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) per year, 11.5% of which are plastic. Potopeel is an alternative to petroleum-based plastics. It is organic-based plastic made from local potato waste. It is 100% biodegradable and even compostable under suitable conditions, and also non-toxic.

Their Startup Experience:

“When we applied to Agrytech, we were hoping the program will help us acquire enough knowledge to start our business and build a bridge between us and investors. During the bootcamp phase, we worked on defining our market to one that aims to sustain a healthy environment.

The bootcamp gave us the tools we needed to identify needs and structure our business. The structuring is much needed for us to be able to proceed with our work. We’re hoping that by making it to the next phase, we are able to achieve 3 of our objectives. The first is to produce successful bioplastic cutlery. The second is to get in touch with bioplastic experts in Europe to receive feedback on problems we are facing in our product development. The third is to be able to test our product with restaurants in Beirut.”

The team consists of Hanan Hassan and Sourayya Sareieddine.
